This section is aimed at those developing, qualifying, testing, and simulating military and aerospace systems that include ARINC 818 interfaces. It will be organized by the various tasks that an engineer needs to achieve at different stages of the life cycle of product development from initial concept through depot maintenance of production equipment.

Typical ARINC 818 Testing Tasks

  1. Validate that ARINC 818 interfaces are properly implemented in an FPGA

  2. Perform robustness and validation testing on a product under development

  3. Build a production tester for running an ATP

  4. Build a cockpit or avionics simulator for pilot training or as a cockpit mock-up.

Step 1: Make a Block Diagram of Your System

Create a top-level block diagram of the complete ARINC 818 system, and then determine which portions you need to emulate or simulate. The diagram below shows a video processor with five cameras as inputs and four displays as outputs.  Once you determine which portions of the system you need to emulate or simulate, then move on to the definition of each of the ARINC 818 links.
